A Christmas gift has sparked controversy on social media. Kim Kardashian is facing sharp criticism after giving each of her children a puppy.
The gift has angered the animal rights organisation Peta: "Puppies are not toys," said Ingrid Newkirk, the charity's founder, in a statement sent to several American media outlets.

In fact, Kanye West's ex-wife wasn't the only one to gift dogs to her children. Her sister, Khloé, did the same for her daughter.
According to the founder, Kim Kardashian "missed an opportunity to be a voice for shelter puppies."
A chance to make amends
She suggested the sisters could try to "make amends by sending their children to volunteer at a local shelter or by funding an adoption day or at least a spay/neuter day at a local shelter to help end the growing homeless puppy crisis."
