Hiding among the bushes, they discovered a small, frightened dog.
The dog, later named Chase, had been wandering the streets alone, scared and lost.
Heartbreaking note
The cyclists acted quickly, bringing Chase to Hope Rescue, a local animal shelter. Upon closer inspection, the rescuers found a collar around Chase's neck with a handwritten note in a plastic bag.
The note revealed that Chase, a one-year-old dog, was friendly and good with children. His owner could no longer care for him and desperately asked for help in finding him a new home.
Chase arrived at Hope Rescue during the shelter's busiest period, with 157 dogs coming through its doors in August alone. Although the shelter was overwhelmed, Chase's arrival was heartbreaking, as it was clear he'd been traumatised from being abandoned.
Hope for Chase
Initially, Chase refused to interact with staff, barely eating or moving. But with time and care, including the companionship of some of the shelter's more gentle dogs, he began to trust again.
Everyone’s hard work paid off when Chase was finally adopted. He’s settled into his new forever home and enjoys the company of his two new canine siblings.
Finally, Chase's future looks bright.
