Heather Cummings has come up with an unusual yet touching way to honour the memory of her beloved dog, Polly Ann, who passed away on June 17, 2024.

Losing a pet is heartbreaking, and deciding what to do with their belongings afterwards adds to the pain. But Heather found a lovely way to reuse her pet’s bowls.

Food bowls to planters

In a heartfelt post shared on the Facebook group “Grief and support for loss of a beloved pet,” Heather revealed that she repurposed Polly Ann’s food and water bowls as planters for two beautiful plants: an Alocasia “Polly” and a Scindapsus “Silvery Ann.”

Heather’s emotional post resonated deeply with the group’s members. “I couldn’t bear to move her food dish, but it hurt to see it empty,” she wrote. “This is my Alocasia ‘Polly’ and Scindapsus ‘Silvery Ann’. I miss her so much.”

RIP Polly Ann

The Facebook group, created for pet owners to “honour the loss of your pet or fear of losing your pet; a group to talk about grief, share feelings, and be real,” saw an outpouring of support and solidarity. Many members revealed that they, too, had found comfort in transforming their late pets’ bowls into planters, sharing their own photos and stories.

Heather also posted pictures of herself with Polly Ann during happier times.
