A fishing trip became a desperate rescue mission when a fishing crew saved more than three dozen dogs from Grenada Lake.

What began as any normal fishing trip for Bob Gist of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Brad Carlisle of Covington, Tennessee, with local guide Jordan Chrestman quickly became a race to save 38 stranded pups.

Dogs in dire straits

Shortly after hitting the water, Chrestman spotted something unusual — dogs struggling in the lake. A group of dogs, sporting pricey radio collars and paint markings, had chased a deer into the water during a fox hunt.

They were found nearly a mile offshore, disoriented and unable to swim back.

Rescue mission

Chrestman steered the boat toward the distressed animals while Gist and Carlisle hauled them aboard, one by one. After filling the boat twice, they enlisted help from a man with a GPS tracker for a third trip. In total, they rescued 38 dogs.

The rescued pups had been in the water for up to an hour, with their owners attempting to reward the crew financially for their efforts. However, Gist and his team declined any payment, citing being in the right place at the right time to help.

Thanks to Crestman's eagle eyes, things would have likely turned out very differently for those dogs.

Well done!
