The two dogs from Brazil got tangled with a porcupine, which left them both covered in painful quills.
Emotional wake-up
The pair had to undergo anaesthesia to remove all the quills that were embedded in their bodies.
The ordeal took an emotional turn when the German Shepherd, awakening first, believed his companion had passed away. Distraught, he whimpered and mournfully howled, refusing to leave the side of his still-sedated friend. Despite his own weakened state, the loyal canine stayed by his companion's side, unable to stand.
Intense grief
The video, capturing the raw display of canine emotions, attracted a flood of reactions online. Some people speculated that the Shepherd might have been hallucinating due to the anaesthesia, intensifying his grief.
We don't know if the dog's reaction has anything to do with its mate, but certainly, the two dogs are very close.
Fortunately, the other dog eventually awoke from his drug-induced slumber, much to his canine companion’s relief. We just hope they’ve both learned not to mess with a porcupine!
