Following Paul O'Grady's passing earlier this year, there has been much speculation as to who will take his place as presenter on ITV's For The Love of Dogs.

With reports of the show returning to our screens, fans are desperate to know who will succeed presenter Paul O'Grady.

A known animal lover, Ricky Gervais has long been considered one of the frontrunners for the position. But will the star really be following in O'Grady's footsteps?

The show documents the lives of dogs and cats at Battersea, who have been taken in as strays or given up for rehoming by their owners.

It would seem to be the perfect fit for Gervais, who shares his life with adopted cat Pickles and passionately advocates for pet adoption.

Setting the record straight

Much to the disappointment of his many fans, it seems the comedian will not be joining the ITV show. He recently took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to set the record straight.

"It's true that I was asked, but I said no I'm afraid. Just too busy", he explained on Monday.

"This may be the most devastating tweet of all time" responded a saddened supporter, while another asked him to reconsider.

With Ricky Gervais out of the running, it remains to be seen who will fill Paul O'Grady's shoes. The release date of a new season has yet to be announced.
