Synnove and Ben Garvey say they are brokenhearted after a vet refused to see their two-year-old pup after the family arrived late for appointment.

The family arrived eight minutes late for their appointment after being caught in traffic. But they were quickly turned away despite something being wrong with their miniature Labradoodle, Frankie.

Poorly pup

At first, Synnove thought that Frankie might just be missing his dad Ben, who is often in the hospital for treatment for a long-term medical condition. But she soon realised that it was something more serious.

She made an appointment at her local Vets4Pets in Stockton for the next day. However, when the time came to go to Frankie's appointment, Synnove found herself caught up in match-day traffic, so she called the vet surgery to let them know she was on her way but delayed. Unfortunately, no one at the surgery picked up her call. When Synnove and Frankie arrived eight minutes late for the appointment, the vet refused to examine Frankie. Despite Synnove explaining that he hadn't had anything to eat or drink for two days, she was told the vet wouldn't see the dog now, and they could have the next available appointment. But this wouldn't be until the next day.

Turned away by vet

Synnove was bewildered. Not only had she and her husband tried several times to alert the surgery that they would be late, the surgery seemed empty of patients, and there were still five minutes left of the appointment.

Synnove had no choice but to take Frankie home and return for an appointment the following day. But heartbreakingly, that appointment came too late for Frankie. The next morning, Synnove discovered Frankie in a sad state, seeking comfort from her six-year-old daughter. Synnove took Frankie to an emergency vet, who discovered he had pneumonia. Sadly, just a few hours later, Frankie passed away.

Before this, Frankie had been a fit and healthy dog, which only adds to the family's heartbreak. They believe that if the vet had examined Frankie at the first appointment, he would have likely survived.

RIP Frankie.
