A litter of 11 pups and their mum was brought to Dallas Animal Services in July of this year.
They were welcomed with open arms. However, more than 100 homeless dogs were brought to the shelter every day, so staff had to turn to outside help to give them the care they needed.
Mustache Puppy
Texas-based charity Hearts and Bones Rescue were happy to oblige. They brought the dogs into their care and were able to have them fostered.
“Puppies are at very high risk for getting sick in the shelter environment, so we knew we had to get them out,” the charity’s Allison Seelig told The Dodo. “We went to meet them last week and were able to find an incredible foster in Dallas who took the entire family in!”
One of the puppies caught the eye of carers and fosterers alike: 5-week-old Salvador Dolly sports the most perfect handlebar moustache since the great artist perfected his. Dolly, also called “Mustache Puppy,” is a hit with everyone who meets her.
Ongoing care
A foster family in Texas is admirably caring for the whole family. According to The Dodo, “The entire family is happy to have a safe home, where they’re getting the medical care and attention they need.”
The dogs will be transferred to the charity’s sister premises in NYC later this year. Once there, Hearts and Bones Rescue hopes to find each one their forever home.
Dogs are born covered in fur and facial hair, but as they get older, they shed their puppy coats. It is unclear whether Salvador Dolly will keep her stunning handlebar moustache!
