Dog being surrendered to shelter clings to owner, hoping it's not really happening

Being abandoned by your family is a traumatising experience for any animal. And it certainly was for Shadow.

Back in 2016, the Saving Carlson Shelter Dogs charity dealt with a very sad case. A dog was being surrendered by his owner, for the saddest of reasons. And he didn't cope with it well.

An unfair surrender

Sometimes, living situations change, and for the good of our pets, it's best to look into safe ways to rehome them. But when it's a fixable issue, wouldn't you do anything to try and keep your pet? That's what you would think. But that's not what Shadow's owner decided to do.

Indeed, Shadow's owner had trouble "containing" him. So they decided it was easier to just give him away.

A heartbreaking goodbye

The hardest part of this surrender is that Shadow clearly didn't want his owner to leave. He seemed to understand what was happening to him and clung to his owner, nudging him and looking at him for comfort and guidance. Unfortunately, despite all his attempts to tell his owner that he didn't want to be abandoned, his owner left anyway. Poor Shadow was left heartbroken and confused.

Thankfully, this story does have a happy ending. Shadow was adopted shortly after by a loving family who would never give up on him! We're so happy for Shadow!
