Bringing home a newborn baby to meet the family is always exciting. Brigette was most looking forward to introducing her daughter to her three feline babies.

Petrified

However, introductions between the baby girl and the three cats didn’t quite go as Brigette had expected. While she expected her feline friends to fall in love with their new human sister, they were literally petrified of the tiny little human.

In a video Brigette shared online, you see the baby sitting in a car seat on the floor. Two black and white cats approach her. One goes up to the car seat and sits by it, staring at the baby. The other keeps a distance but still has their eyes fixed on the baby before darting off as someone tries to stroke them.

A ginger cat then decides to investigate the new arrival. It sits staring at the baby at a safe distance.

Forever friends

But there’s a happy ending to these rather awkward first introductions. Brigette says the weeks after her daughter came home, the cats grew more confident around the baby and would happily sit near her and lie beside her while she slept. The feline trio have become so confident around the little girl that they will try to join her in her crib. Brigette says.

“Eight weeks in, and I think they like her.”

It’s important to be cautious when introducing a cat to a baby. Cats should be introduced to the baby in a quiet room and allowed to approach them at their own pace. You should make sure that the cats have the opportunity to leave the room and not be forced to interact with the infant.

We urge Wamiz readers to always be cautious when letting a pet play with a child. No matter how sweet pets can be, they may sometimes feel uncomfortable with a child's rough play and children can’t always pick up on that. Better safe than sorry, always supervise interactions between a child and an animal!
