Julie Levine lives in a quiet suburban neighbourhood in California where humans and wildlife often have to coexist.
Dogs start barking at night
Around a month ago, Julie was woken up by the sound of her Beagles barking in the middle of the night. This had happened before when the dogs had seen rats outside the house, so Julie didn’t worry too much about it and went right back to sleep.
But the next morning, she was curious to find out what might have caused that outburst. So she checked out her CCTV footage and was left shocked at what she saw.
An uninvited guest
A coyote had jumped over the fence the night before into her garden. But what’s worse - the wild animal was brazen enough to enter the house through the dog door! The coyote spent a full three minutes inside the house but must’ve started to feel anxious with the dogs barking and finally decided to leave.
While coyotes don’t pose a threat to humans, they can be very dangerous for small dogs and cats, who they find to be easy prey. Julie now locks the doggy door every night, just to make sure her dogs are always safe!
That was a close call!
