Daisy is a gentle and loving Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix who lives with her owner Jessica Woodruff in Oregon, USA.
Daisy had been a devoted mum to her litter of seven beautiful puppies until tragedy struck when Jessica’s barn went up in flames, killing a pig, four goats and Daisy’s three-week-old litter of seven puppies.
Devastated
As soon as she realised the barn was on fire, Daisy rushed to the barn to try to save her puppies, but it was too late. Jessica had to hold the dog back or else she would have also died in the fire. The fire spread very quickly, and there was nothing that either Jessica or Daisy could do.
Everyone was heartbroken, especially Daisy. She sank into a depression and would often go over to the ruins of the barn and whine for her puppies. Jessica knew she had to do something to help Daisy.
Foster mum
Jessica’s sister, Jacque Barnett, had the idea to post on Facebook asking if anyone knew of any orphaned puppies that needed fostering. At the same time, Lorna Murphy’s beloved five-year-old dog Chloe had sadly passed away after giving birth to a litter of eight pups. The two owners arranged to introduce Daisy to the puppies.
Daisy was thrilled. As soon as she met the puppies, her natural maternal instincts kicked in, and she began to feed them.
Daisy took wonderful care of the puppies over the next few weeks until they were all weaned. The pups were then returned to Lorna, apart from Benji, the runt of the litter, that Daisy and Jessica kept.
