Joanne Gudger from Atherstone, Warwickshire, unearthed the potato while collecting vegetables in her allotment garden. Joanne has dug up some odd-shaped spuds in her time, but this one was a real surprise.
The potato had an uncanny resemblance to Joanne's pet pooch, a 13-year-old American Bulldog called Dave.
Separated at birth
Joanne shared a picture comparing Dave to the potato, and the resemblance is undeniable. In fact, it looks like these two were separated at birth.
Speaking to the Metro, Joanne said:
"As soon as I pulled it out of the soil, I knew straight away that it looked like Dave. I took a picture to send to my other half, Mark – even he said it's the spitting image of him."
Joanne and her family couldn't bring themselves to eat the potato, so they adopted it instead. He's called Dave the Potato Head, and he lives in Joanne's kitchen.
Pet potatoes!
Dave the Potato Head doesn't do much, and he's pretty easy to look after. And he's also brought some much-needed comic relief into the Gudger house.
"It has been a breath of fresh air due to my job working for a care company and dealing with COVID. It’s been a trying time. This cheered us all up massively," said Joanne.
