Diggy the white American Bulldog had been waiting for a forever home for over 3 months at the Detroit Dog Rescue when he met dog lover Dan Tillery.

It was love at first sight for Dan. It didn’t take long for him and his girlfriend to decide that Diggy was to become a new member of their little family.

Meant to be

Dan could not have been more excited about rescuing a new dog, especially one that was as happy and good-natured as Diggy! That’s why he shared an adorable selfie of himself with his new bestie as soon as he got home from the shelter.

Most of Dan’s friends were very supportive of the adoption and were ecstatic that the pair were so happy to have found each other. But the post also attracted some undesirable attention.

An illegal act

Just a couple of hours after bringing Diggy home, the police knocked on Dan’s door. It turns out that one of his Facebook followers had alerted the police that Dan had adopted a Pitbull – a ‘type’ which is banned in the city of Detroit.

Dan fought tooth and nail to keep his dog – after all, the shelter had told him that Diggy was an American Bulldog! After going to court and creating a petition which gathered hundreds of signatures, Dan won his battle and got to keep Diggy. In fact, he changed the lives of countless owners and their dogs. Following his viral experience, the ban on Pitbulls was lifted in Detroit.

We couldn’t think of a better ending for such a sweet pup!
