On 13th August, a passer-by spotted a cat in a very bad way on the streets of Montreal, Canada.

His fur was completely matted and he had several wounds on his back.

The poor cat could no longer move and was in desperate need of help.

A desperate plea for help

Thankfully, the kind stranger posted a message on social media asking for help. Ariane, a volunteer from a local rescue, saw the post and quickly rushed to the scene. The cat, who they named Aspen, was exhausted. He didn't make a sound as Ariane gently picked him up and took him to safety. She brought him back to her home and made a cosy little spot for him to help him relax.

Aspen couldn't move because of the severe matting in his fur. Every movement he made pulled painfully on the tight knots that had formed on his back. Despite his suffering, the poor cat remained silent. The charity Chatons Orphelins Montréal stepped in to give him the urgent care he needed.

Free at last

Rescuers began by shaving him to free him from the painful mats. The vet also treated his sore stomach and the wound on his back. Throughout it all, Aspen let them handle him without a fuss. Afterwards, Aspen went to a foster home to rest and regain his strength. Thanks to dedicated care and a special diet, he recovered very quickly and his beautiful coat grew back.

Aspen is very fond of his foster family and the other cats in the house. In fact, he finds the presence of other cats very reassuring. He also loves spending time with people and having a good cuddle. Now that his fur is tangle-free, he absolutely adores being brushed. You can hear his purrs from across the room whenever his foster mum gets the brush out!
