Debbie was glad she had installed the cameras, as they allowed her to witness an absolutely fascinating scene.
Without the footage, she would never have believed it had happened.
An unlikely showdown
Debbie discovered that her 10-year-old cat, Mama, had stood up to a coyote that approached her home. In the footage, the coyote can be seen approaching the garden, and Mama arches her back to make herself look as big as possible.
The standoff between the coyote and the cat lasts only a few seconds, but Mama's behaviour clearly deters the wild animal from coming any closer to the house. Eventually, the cat decides to climb a tree for safety until the coyote moves on.
Safe and sound
Of course, Debbie checked on Mama's health. She had no injuries and was acting completely normally. All's well that ends well: Mama is safely back home, and the coyote has not returned.
According to wildlife experts, the coyote's intention was likely not to fight or eat the cat, but to protect its pups nearby, warning the cat not to come any closer. We are so relieved that Mama is okay, and we admire her courage!
