The "True Rescue" charity, based in Tennessee, USA, had never seen anything like it. On 30th July, four kittens were brought to them, and one had a very surprising feature.
A global rarity
The little ginger and white kitten, just a few months old, is thought to be a global rarity: he was born with... four ears!
This very rare trait is the result of a genetic mutation, but it is not yet well-documented in veterinary literature. Cats with this attribute are incredibly rare, with only a handful of cases discovered worldwide in the last decade. One example was Midas, a Turkish cat with four ears, who was found in 2021.
A very special name
As the little kitten is officially a global rarity, the charity decided to give him a name that would perfectly suit his character. The kitten was named Audio.
While there's no evidence to suggest his hearing is any better than other cats, the name certainly fits him like a glove!
First, Audio was given a full veterinary check-up before being put up for adoption. It was confirmed that his extra ears won't cause any specific health problems, although they will need a little more cleaning.
The team at "True Rescue" are already huge fans of the little chap, and it seems the public are just as smitten. Many media outlets have picked up the kitten's photo, and Audio looks set to become a small internet celebrity.
