When he was dropped off at a shelter in Los Angeles, United States, Doyle, a 4-year-old dog, had nothing with him but a note written by his family. A few sincere lines on a piece of paper, poignant enough to touch the hearts of the volunteers present that day. They discovered an animal described as sensitive, unaccustomed to the outside world, and whose owners admitted they could no longer keep him due to a house move.
As is often the case in these situations, the shelter team immediately looked for a solution to keep him from staying behind bars. That's when A Purposeful Rescue, a local charity specialising in dogs from overcrowded shelters, was contacted. Its founder, Hillary Rosen, met Doyle shortly after his arrival, and reading the note was enough to convince her to step in.
Doyle discovers a new life far from abandonment
According to the charity, the letter explained that Doyle wasn't used to other dogs and had hardly ever been outside. His family also confided that he was frightened of raised voices, whilst emphasising just how gentle he was. The very idea of parting with him seemed to break their hearts, to the point where they explicitly asked that he be given a second chance and that he not be condemned.
Once taken in, Doyle was taken to the vet to be neutered and groomed. He then went to a foster family, where he's gradually getting used to a calmer daily life. The volunteers note that he's proving to be sociable, gentle and open to interaction, which gives hope for a quick adoption.
A Purposeful Rescue points out that Doyle wasn't at risk of being put down: other charities would probably have stepped forward if necessary. But his story, as it was shared on Instagram, sped things up and prompted numerous messages of support. Now, his rescuers are focusing on the next step: finding the family who can offer him that famous "second chance" so wished for by his former owners.
