An American family living in the city of Whittier, California, got the shock of their lives when they discovered a statue they'd never seen before in their garden.
As they got closer, the parents realised that the "statue" was actually a dog they'd never seen in the neighbourhood. Even more surprising, the dog wouldn't budge from her spot.
Soon to be offered for adoption
She stayed for hours on the porch, staring at the road. Faced with this behaviour that broke their hearts, the family tried several times to bring her into the house, without the slightest success.
The parents therefore decided to contact Suzette Hall, who helps animals in distress in the region.
Once there, Suzette set up a trap to get the animal to safety. Thanks to a bit of food, the dog went straight into the crate.
Named Maya, the dog was able to be pampered and saw a vet to check her health.
In a few weeks' time, the little dog will be offered for adoption to find her an ideal home.
