This person was carrying a stray dog with matted fur in their arms and asked if the shelter could take in one more resident.
The rescuers agreed to take the dog into their care.
A coat full of knots
They named her Woolly. They knew the little dog's transformation would be complex, as she was covered in mats. But it wasn't until after a medical examination that they realised just how critical her condition was... The poor 10-pound dog was infested with maggots inside her fur.
The rescuers immediately set to work removing her thick coat. They took their time shaving each mat one by one, until Woolly was almost hairless. Unfortunately, Woolly's skin beneath her coat was inflamed and infected. But the shelter developed a treatment plan to get her back on her feet. Along with her new treatment, Woolly quickly found a foster home where she could recover safely.
A loving family
Woolly was thrilled to be placed in foster care just two days after being rescued. She settled into her new home and had her most restful night in months. Over the weeks, her playful personality began to emerge.
Just over two months after her rescue, Woolly officially found her forever home and has been thriving with her family ever since. Now that she's feeling better, the adorable little dog is more playful than ever. And her family, along with her SRSL rescuers, are delighted to see her flourish!
