A worrying sight
In New Hampshire, USA, a family managed to save their home from a fire that had just started.
As reported by Newsweek, Connor and Ale Barry discovered something was wrong at home while checking their connected pet camera.
The couple discovered that Vanilla, their one-year-old Labrador, had accidentally started a fire in their kitchen.
On their smartphone screen, they first saw their dog barking unusually, then thick smoke rising from the cooker.
A race against time
Looking back at the footage, the couple understood the reason for the panic. Their dog had jumped up on the hob and, as she came down, had accidentally turned a knob, switching on a still-hot ring. A tea towel left on top quickly caught fire.
"We were just having a coffee before doing the laundry, and when we saw Vanilla crying and howling, we knew immediately that something was wrong," Connor Barry told Newsweek.
Alerted remotely by the camera, the owners rushed straight home. Within about three minutes, Connor was able to put out the fire, remove the flaming tea towel, and avert a disaster. A salt shaker placed nearby had even melted from the heat.
