Shelter workers and volunteers will tell you: it's never easy to rehome older dogs. Yet the fate of Bo, a nearly 10-year-old Labrador/Pitbull cross, took an unexpected turn.
As reported by Newsweek, Bo was abandoned by an owner struggling with addiction. The dog was subsequently transferred to a shelter run by the Kentucky Animal Care Society in the United States.
While the dog was trying to overcome this trauma, Clay, who works at the shelter, came face to face with Bo.
Adopted by a shelter worker
"I felt so bad that an older dog like him was left alone and confused. He was so anxious that he didn't eat for the first few days, simply because of the stress of being abandoned".
Clay decided to take him home temporarily to get him out of the shelter and offer him the warmth of a home.
After two weeks, the young man knew he wouldn't let Bo return to the shelter. The magic worked straight away: "I fell in love with him and knew I had to keep him".
A new beginning for Bo
This heartwarming story shows that age is just a number when it comes to finding the perfect companion. Bo's journey from abandonment to finding his forever home proves that every dog deserves a second chance.
