Princess was brought into rescue back in 2024, having been found living in appalling conditions. She was removed, and her owner banned from keeping pets.

Louise Downton was found guilty by the Magistrates Court in Birmingham this month, after her dog Princess was found living in shocking conditions.

She was given a ten-year ban on owning pets, and ordered to pay £400 in costs.

Rescuing Princess

"The stench of faeces and urine coming from inside the property was evident through the bottom panel in the front door, which had been removed," said RSPCA Inspector Boris Lasserre.

Princess was surrounded by broken glass, and she was visibly underweight at just 12kg.

Thankfully, she was taken into the care of the rescue just in time. Her weight increased by 30% in 30 days, and she started to learn all about the world around her.

New beginnings

Despite her incredible recovery, months went by and Princess was still waiting.

"This sweet girl originally came into our care as a young puppy but as her case went on for so long, she has now grew up in kennels!" explained the rescue as they shared her story to Facebook.

They described the Labrador mix's love of people, games of fetch and adventures, in the hope that someone would soon come forward.

In mitigation, her former owner said she had been struggling to care for herself while Princess was living with her, but that she deeply regretted her actions.
