Alanna and Keith were devastated when their faithful companion died.
They mourned their beloved companion for many months, until they finally felt ready to let another pup into their lives.
Meeting Mulligan
When they came across a photo of Mulligan, a 10-year-old Golden Retriever, Alanna and Keith fell for him immediately. His advanced age didn't matter to them.
But when the couple decided he was the right dog for them, they were heartbroken to discover that Mulligan's listing had disappeared.
"Too smelly"
Eventually, they saw Mulligan had been put back up for adoption.
They rushed to meet him at the rescue. There, they learnt that his previous owners, an elderly couple, had given him up as they could no longer care for him. He was then adopted before being returned by a man who thought he was "too smelly".
The poor lad was overweight, limping, and he was suffering terrible anxiety after all he had been through.
None of this mattered to Alanna and Keith, who fell head over heels for Mulligan. After three weeks at the rescue, this elderly Goldie had found the perfect family.
"He has brought light back into our home and soothed our hearts... Now we're determined to help him live out his golden years in comfort and joy," his humans told Newsweek.
