An unexpected reveal

The news was announced during a visit to Cardigan, in Wales, on Tuesday 3rd February. Kate Middleton was interacting with a Cocker Spaniel, the mascot of a local business, when she revealed, ”We have a little dog, he's only eight months old, and Orla is five.”

Months of speculation

Speculation about a new dog had already started last year after Orla, the family's Cocker Spaniel, had a litter of four puppies. In June 2025, a photo released to celebrate Prince William's birthday showed the prince sitting on the grass surrounded by several puppies, which fuelled further speculation that they had adopted one of them.

But until this recent statement, no official confirmation had been given. That has now changed, and although the new puppy's name is still unknown, the Princess has finally put the rumours to rest.
