Shelter visitors stop by her kennel, but a word on the door makes them walk away

By Ludivine Mazzotti

At a shelter in Marietta, Georgia, in the United States, a young dog named Julie is waiting desperately for someone to finally open their heart to her.

Julie is only eight months old, yet she has all the wonderful qualities that families usually look for in a pet.

She is an affectionate, playful and curious dog who absolutely loves spending time with people.

A heartbreaking routine

Yet, during every public visit, the exact same thing happens. Visitors stop in front of her kennel, smile at her, and seem won over instantly by her sweet, soulful eyes.

Sadly, as soon as they read that Julie is deaf, they turn away without even trying to get to know her. This heartbreaking routine is devastating for the shelter staff.

Looking for a second chance

Julie was surrendered by her previous owners when they found out they were expecting a baby. The poor dog ended up in the shelter, unable to understand why her life had changed so suddenly. Since then, she has simply been hoping that someone will look past her disability.

Being deaf does not stop her from living life to the full. Julie already knows many hand signals, including "sit", "lie down" and "give paw". She is incredibly clever, highly attentive, and always eager to learn.

Today, Julie is waiting for a family who can look beyond the word "deaf" on her kennel card. We dearly hope that someone will finally notice lovely Julie – a loyal companion who has so much love to give.
