A senior dog is spending her final days surrounded by love thanks to a compassionate foster couple who stepped in to give her the love she’s never had.

On Monday, 2d June, Mildred, a Pitbull mix in poor health, left the shelter for the first time in her life.

She’s now being lovingly cared for by Laurel and Rob, who practise “sunset fostering,” a form of end-of-life care for elderly or terminally ill rescue dogs.

Canine bucket list

Although Mildred’s mobility is limited and her time may be short, she’s finally experiencing soft beds, gentle strokes, and simple pleasures like toys and fresh air.

Her foster family are helping her enjoy each moment, taking her on wagon walks and building her a bucket list.

Love and care at last

Sunset fostering offers dogs like Mildred a final chapter filled with dignity, affection, and peace, something many senior shelter animals never get to experience.

Mildred’s story is a moving reminder of the quiet heroes in the rescue community who open their homes and hearts, even when goodbyes come too soon. For Mildred, love has come at last and she’s glowing in it.
