Vice-president of Freedom Ranch Laredo, Reymundo, was driving along when something caught his attention.
But with traffic building up behind him, he had no option but to carry on driving.
Gut instinct
"I knew this day would haunt me if I didn't go back to check what it was", he told The Dodo.
And thankfully, the animal lover's gut instinct couldn't have been more right.
Not a big fan of dogs
It turned out that the mysterious black ball was actually a tiny kitten.
A kitten that could have quickly lost its life due to the increasingly heavy traffic.
Reymundo rushed the terrified baby back to the shelter, where she has been thriving thanks to the love and care of the staff.
"She is about 12 weeks old and loves children (..) She isn't a big fan of dogs yet, but she's gradually getting used to them and starting to let them approach her" , they explained.
When the time is right, the team will work to find her the perfect forever home.
