When bringing a new pet into your family, it’s essential to take all necessary precautions to ensure you know exactly where the animal is coming from.

When Abbigail Leon and her husband decided to welcome a dog into their home, they never imagined they would end up rescuing their beloved pet from mistreatment.

The couple began searching online for a Golden Retriever but were put off by the high prices. That was until a breeder offered them a deal they couldn’t resist.

Concerning behaviour

Excited to meet their new puppy, later named Ben, they arrived at the seller’s location. However, they were immediately unsettled by the breeder’s odd behaviour, particularly when he advised them not to give the puppy alcohol or cigarettes.

Despite this, they were charmed by Ben and decided to take him home.

A worrying discovery

Once home, Abbigail and her husband began to have doubts. Ben was covered in ticks and seemed unwell. Concerned, they took him to the vet, who confirmed their fears, Ben had not been properly cared for.

The vet also made a shocking discovery: part of Ben’s ear had been cut off, likely to conceal a black mark that suggested he was not a purebred Golden Retriever.

Thankfully, with proper care and attention, Ben has since made a full recovery. He has regained his energy and now enjoys the happy life every puppy deserves.
