The RSPCA has been overwhelmed with calls and messages after rescuing what one officer described as the "thinnest dog" they had ever encountered.

Peanut, a three-year-old Lurcher, was found emaciated and near-lifeless on New Year’s Day near Dunton Lane in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.

The severely malnourished dog was taken to the Block Fen Animal Centre in Wimblington, Cambridgeshire, where staff are working tirelessly to nurse her back to health.

Tender loving care

Peanut, suffering from pressure sores and extreme starvation, is being fed small, frequent meals to aid her slow recovery.

Kennel supervisor Tiffany Saunders described Peanut as "lifeless" upon arrival but added that she was making gradual progress. "She is still very underweight and has a long journey ahead before being ready for rehoming," she said.

Overwhelmed with support

Support for Peanut has been overwhelming, with the centre receiving countless calls, emails, and social media messages from concerned members of the public. An Amazon wish list has also been created to help provide supplies for her ongoing care.

While applications to adopt Peanut are not yet open, the RSPCA thanked the public for their "incredible support" and promised to share updates on her recovery.
