The incident occurred during a biting cold snap that saw temperatures in Oxfordshire dip as low as -9.5°C.
Dexter became stranded on a small duck island after breaking through the ice.
Rescue mission
Responding swiftly, Oxford Direct Services (ODS) staff waded into the icy water to reach the frightened animal.
With teamwork and determination, they managed to bring the soggy but unharmed dog safely back to shore.
Dog warden Ady Higgs praised the collective effort: "Our focus was to get Dexter back to safety as quickly as possible. It was a true team effort involving colleagues across departments."
Once rescued, Dexter was warmed up, reunited with his relieved owner, and taken for a precautionary check-up at the vet.
