On the 7th of February, the fires had just broken out in the Palisades neighbourhood of LA.
Some desperate home owners tried to stay in their homes for as long as possible, spraying their walls and roofs with water. But as conditions got worse, it was evident they had to abandon everything and evacuate.
Passer-by becomes wildfire hero in seconds
Caleb Serban-Lawler was evacuating his neighbourhood after helping people in the hills when he came across a panicked woman on the side of the road. She tapped on his window, explaining that her car wouldn't start, and desperately asked for help rescuing her and her four dogs.
Without hesitation, Caleb responded: "I got you, I got you."
Rescued in the nick of time
Though the woman's house was already on fire, Caleb bravely got out of his car and helped her retrieve her four dogs. Burning hot embers were flying through the air, and the smoke was so thick that they could barely see - but everyone - four dogs included - made it safely into his vehicle.
The woman and her dogs are now staying at a friend's house. Caleb is being hailed a hero for saving them with such calm and courage.
At least 24 people have now died in the wildfires as the potential return of high winds threatens to push the fires further through the city.
