A kind samaritan in Aylesbury saved the lives of three dogs, who had been left trapped inside a hot car.
She immediately called the police, who smashed the window to get them out.
Just in time
The dehydrated dogs were rushed to the Dogs Trust. Thankfully they all survived.
Jonathon Greenwell, who works with the Dogs Trust, explained that dogs aren't able to regulate their body temperatures like humans.
"When you think about it, imagine you're experiencing the same heat you are, but you're literally wearing a fur coat", he explained. "They can overheat very quickly. I mean there is really no safe amount of time to leave a dog in a hot car on a hot day".
Important precautions
There are a number of precautions owners can take, according to the charity.
Checking the pavement temperature with the back of your hand ensures the surface is safe to walk on. Providing plenty of shade and fresh water will also help keep your pup feeling refreshed, avoiding walks at hotter times of the day.
Of course it goes without saying that no dog should be left in the car, no matter how quick the stop off. These dogs made a fully recovery thanks to the quick thinking of their rescuer, but even a few moments has the potential to prove fatal.
