On 8 November, two Chow Chows were discovered tied to a tree in the L36 area of Liverpool.
The dogs, now named Dalinda and Kaida, were severely matted and unwell. Veterinary staff had to sedate them to remove their overgrown fur, which had caused skin issues.
Neglected pups
Both dogs are now under the care of Dogs Trust, but their microchips were unregistered, so their owners cannot be traced.
In a separate incident on 11 November, a French Bulldog was found underweight and unwell in Birkenhead. The two-year-old, named Cassie, according to her microchip, was malnourished and assessed with a body condition score of just two out of nine.
She is now recovering in emergency kennels.
Heartbreaking cases
RSPCA Deputy Chief Inspector Caren Goodman-James described the cases as “heartbreaking” and urged anyone with information to contact their appeals line at 0300 123 8018.
The RSPCA emphasised the importance of seeking help during difficult times, highlighting resources available to pet owners, including food banks and advice services.
The charity has also launched its Join The Christmas Rescue campaign to address growing concerns about animal welfare this winter.
