A dramatic rescue effort in Málaga saved 39 dogs from the brink of drowning as floods swept through the region on 13 November.

Heavy rains caused by a DANA weather system inundated the area, triggering a red alert and wreaking havoc across the province.

The Carnicero stream overflowed near the Málaga Equestrian Club, flooding the kennels where the dogs were housed.

Trapped in flood waters

The rising waters left the animals trapped and in immediate danger. A desperate plea for assistance circulated on social media, urging people to bring battery-powered tools to free the animals as power outages hampered rescue efforts.

Construction workers from a nearby site were the first to respond, using their tools to help unlock enclosures.

Safe evacuation

Emergency teams, including Málaga firefighters, local police, and Grupona personnel, quickly joined the effort, ensuring the safe evacuation of the dogs.

The stables housing 41 horses were also flooded, and while their rescue posed significant challenges, all the animals were ultimately saved. Witnesses described the rescue as tense, with the waters rising alarmingly fast.

This harrowing incident highlights the devastating impact of the floods in Málaga, where authorities continue to urge caution as recovery operations get underway.
