Krystal Capone and Zachary Hughes first spotted the dog, later named Bryson, sitting patiently by the roadside.
Assuming he belonged to someone nearby, they continued on their way.
Repeat encounter
The next day, they came across him again. This time, the dog was miles away and at the bottom of a steep mountain.
Concerned for his safety, they returned him to the area where they had initially seen him, but no one claimed him.
The dog seemed tired, and the couple couldn’t help but feel drawn to him, deciding to take him back to their Airbnb.
Capone and Hughes soon learned through local lost dog pages that Bryson’s previous family had abandoned him after he chewed something in their house. Deeply moved, they decided to keep him, naming him after the city where they found him.
Surprise proposal
As they adjusted their plans to care for Bryson, Hughes was secretly planning a proposal. During a hike to a waterfall, he asked Capone to marry him, with Bryson by their side.
The couple cancelled their flight home to drive Bryson back with them just days before Hurricane Helene struck. Bryson has found his forever home, fitting in perfectly with their three children and two other dogs.
What a wonderful, fairy-tale ending.
