The RPSCA has launched an investigation, after two emaciated lurchers were found abandoned outside a garden centre in Essex on Thursday.

A passerby was walking past a garden centre in Little Clacton, Essex, when he spotted a male and female lurcher who had clearly been abandoned.

Emaciated and afraid, they were in urgent need of help.

Shocking neglect

The kind samaritan rushed the brown and black lurchers to the vet, who later notified the RSPCA.

The dogs were underweight, had fleas and a bad skin condition, requiring immediate veterinary attention.

"Thankfully a walker found them and was able to help, otherwise I fear due to their poor condition they would have struggled to survive much longer", explained Inspector Jean Wildman.

"They are now in our care and are so friendly and lovely", she said. "We have them on a strict diet to help slowly build up their weight and help them recover".

A rise in abandonment

The charity has recently called on the public for support, as it launches a Christmas appeal against animal abandonment.

The festive season often sees a rise in the number of animals needing care. As the RSCA warns, it's always important to get abandoned animals the care they need.

Thankfully for these lucky lurchers, they ended up in the right hands. As soon as they're ready, they will be on their way to loving homes of their own.
