Richmond Animal Care and Control are often called in to remove animals who have been left after an eviction. In this tragic case, it was a very different story.

Officers first attended a home in Richmond, Virginia to serve an eviction notice. But on arrival, they realised they were dealing with a heartbreaking case.

The owner had died sometime before, leaving their devoted dog in the apartment alone.

The most loyal companion

The dog, who was later named Kara Bella, had sat beside her owner for days.

Officers called in Richmond Animal Care and Control, who immediately attended and brought the loyal little dog to safety.

It later became apparent that no family member could help Kara Bella, so she was signed over for re-homing.

New beginnings for Kara Bella

"This one will break your heart", reads the Facebook post shared by Richmond Animal Care and Control, who appealed for a loving home for Kara.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of this resident. No one was able to take Kara Bella so she is now ours and needs a home. She's bouncy and wants an active lifestyle where she gets lots of exercise", they went on to explain.

Thankfully, the perfect couple came forward to adopt her. "We hope she lives a long and happy life with her new family", wrote the rescue.
