A heartwarming video shared on TikTok shows a cat's reaction to seeing his canine sibling's face again after she had passed away and it left her owners in tears.
Cleo meets Groot
When senior dog Cleo was 11 years old, her owners adopted a rambunctious kitten named Groot.
At first, Cleo was sceptical of the feisty feline, but the cat's energy and loving nature soon proved infectious.
The pair's owner, Asya Cutrino, was delighted to see the pair bond and become best friends. Groot loved nothing more than pawing and pouncing on his older canine companion, who, in turn, seemed to relish his feline affection.
That said, Groot also found peace and comfort in Cleo's slower pace of life. The pair could often be found nestled by each other's side in harmony despite their differences.
RIP Cleo
Sadly, after ten months of friendship, Cleo fell ill. A week later, the pup passed away.
A heartbroken Aysa would watch Groot sit at the front door as if waiting for Cleo to come back.
To memorialise their beloved dog, the family created a large portrait of her to hang on a wall. But they weren't the only ones to find solace in it. After hanging the portrait, Aysa noticed Groot would stop by to gaze upon it as well, reaching out a tender paw to gently stroke Cleo's face.
But while time has passed, now and again, he will stop by the portrait and look at it as if remembering their special times together.
While nothing could ever replace Cleo in the hearts of Groot and his family, they still had plenty of love left to give so adopted a kitten. The new kitten never got the chance to meet Cleo, but in some way, Cleo's spirit never really left at all; Aysa said: "She is always here, in us and in Groot."
