The seven-year-old Belgian Malinois served diligently with the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team since 2018, becoming the region's first full-time search and rescue dog.
Rigorous training
Rescued as a stray in Ireland, Frankie received rigorous training, amassing invaluable skills under the guidance of Watch Manager Steve Carr.
Despite battling hip dysplasia early in her career, Frankie didn't stop doing her job. Her ability to swiftly locate casualties in hazardous environments proved instrumental in saving lives and ensuring firefighter safety.
Watch Manager Carr expressed profound gratitude for their unbreakable bond and Frankie's unwavering dedication.
Happy retirement, Frankie!
On her last day, staff and members of the USAR team lined the walkway to give Frankie a special guard of honour, applauding her as she walked past.
While Frankie steps back from active duty, her successor, Merlin, will continue the vital work of urban search and rescue. Frankie plans to enjoy her retirement alongside Merlin, occasionally visiting her former colleagues.
We hope Frankie enjoys her well-earned retirement!
