A heart-stopping encounter between a beach-loving dog and a lurking crocodile in Queensland was captured in stunning aerial footage.

The nail-biting video showed the massive five-metre reptile stalking the unaware dog as it strolled along the shoreline.

Crocodile versus dog

With the crocodile patiently treading water, hoping for an opportunity to strike, the dog eventually retreated, leading the predator to lose interest.

Shared on Instagram by photographer Jerry Ahmat, the footage left social media users in disbelief at the dog’s narrow escape.

Some expressed shock and concern, while others speculated that the dog may have been aware of the danger all along.

Lucky escape

Some people did question why the dog wasn’t called back to safety sooner, but it was explained that beachgoers did attempt to retrieve the dog. However, the dog appeared to be a stray, so it didn’t have owners nearby watching out for him.

Jerry went on to explain that crocodiles are prevalent in the area, often found near the shores of Loyalty Beach, Seisia, and Red Island.

Despite the close call, the dog’s fortunate evasion of the crocodile highlights the dangers lurking in Australia’s coastal regions.
