Animal lovers have been stunned and angered by two separate instances of animal cruelty that left two poor pups alone to fend for themselves.
The two incidents were caught on camera and occurred on the same stretch of road in Southern California.
Heartless owners
A local animal shelter had installed security cameras that looked onto this particular road after it saw an increase in pets abandoned nearby.
For instance, the shelter discovered a little puppy hiding after her owner cruelly dumped her. After the puppy was found, shelter staff checked the video footage, and a vehicle was seen pulling up by the side of the road; moments later, a little puppy could be seen sitting alone. The puppy, named Delilah, estimated to be just six weeks old, was forced to spend 24 hours in the rain and cold before finally being found.
Caught on camera
The founder of the shelter discovered the second dog, a female Rottweiler, in the grounds of the shelter. When the man scrolled back through the security footage, which overlooked the road, he spotted a silver car stop by the side of the road. The back door opened, and the dog jumped out.
The car then speeds off. The Rottweiler, Pebbles, was lucky not to have been hit by a car and saved her life by running into the shelter's garden. It's believed that Pebbles could be pregnant, which may be why she was abandoned.
Here's the heartbreaking video:
The shelter owner has handed over the footage to police, who are investigating.
In the meantime, little Delilah and Pebbles are being cared for by the shelter.
