Ariana Giampietro was delighted to adopt the adorable pit bull, but she became increasingly frustrated that he wouldn't do what was asked of him and appeared quite disobedient.
Naughty or misunderstood?
After watching him continue to ignore commands, it suddenly dawned on Ariana that rather than Monty being disobedient, could it be that they were delivering the commands in the wrong language?
The rescue shelter where he had been staying had told Ariana that the dog's previous family were Spanish. Fortunately, Ariana's boyfriend spoke fluent Spanish and taught her some canine commands.
Ariana learned that the command "sit" was "abajo" in Spanish, so she decided to try it out with Monty. When he heard the word "abajo", Monty immediately sat as requested.
Bilingual pup
That made it clear that Monty wasn't being naughty or disobedient. He simply didn't know the language, so being told to sit meant nothing to him. Realising this, Ariana set about teaching Monty English, and after just a few weeks, Monty also understands English. What a clever pup!

Well done, Monty!
