A shocking scene

The dog was in very poor physical condition, with lumps of fur coming out as he stroked her. But this wasn't all she was struggling with. The poor pup was extremely overweight, and this made life even more difficult for her.

Despite it all, Cindy Crawford, as she was later named, proved to be the sweetest girl. Immediately friendly and affectionate, she seemed so relieved somebody had decided to help her.

The road to recovery

A veterinary visit revealed Cindy was suffering from a thyroid problem, which had most likely contributed to her extreme weight gain. Treatment was a slow, careful process, with vets fearing she may have a heart attack after so much strain on her body.

Thankfully, Cindy proved to be a born survivor!

With the right care, she not only started feeling better, she also lost all the excess weight she'd been carrying around.

These days Cindy is unrecognisable. "I think we can all learn a lot from Cindy", writes Niall. "We might be down at times in life, but we're never out".
