Having survived a bombing in Ukraine, Boris thought he was safe in the UK. Little did he know he had a ticket booked on the next transport out of the country.

Belgian Malinois cross Boris was born in Ukraine, where he spent many years alongside his family.

Tragically, they were forced to flee the country during the war, meaning they had to leave their beloved companion behind.

Failed by humans

Boris was placed in a rescue shelter in Ukraine. His family had hoped he would be safe there, but in reality this was just the beginning of the Shepherd's tumultuous time.

The shelter was bombed, leaving only 16 survivors.

"Boris has been let down a lot by humans", explains the rescue. @Safe Rescue UK

The dogs were all sent to Romania, before travelling to homes in the UK.

Heartbreakingly, after all he'd been through, the 6-years-old's new home was completely unsuitable, and he had to go. He was then moved to another home with too many dogs - and when everything became too much for the rescue, they booked a ticket for him to return to Romania.

Safe at last

Safe Rescue UK was contacted five days before Boris was due to be deported. Shocked and saddened by his story, they immediately agreed to help, settling him into a trusted foster home.

Since his arrival, Boris "is being just a true gent", explains the rescue. "He is such a a happy and friendly boy. He mixes well with cats and dogs but could also be the only dog in the home. He walks really nicely on a lead and we are told that he’s well behaved off lead too".

Despite all the turmoil, Boris has never lost his trust in people. @Safe Rescue UK

After everything he's been through, Boris desperately deserves his happy ending.
