Manchester's Alfie's Island Dog Cafe has opened its doors. And it's bigger, better, and even more 'paw-some' than we could've ever imagined.

Alfie's Island Dog Cafe, which sits across 22 acres in Altrincham, Manchester, was meant to open in 2020. It would have been a mecca for dog lovers across the North West. The idea was simple: pop in for coffee and a bite to eat, hang out with some dogs, and maybe even adopt one. Perfect!

But then Covid hit, and the opening plans were shelved. Then the owners ran into planning permission issues, so the opening was delayed even further. But they never gave up. And now, over a year and a half later, Alfie's Island Cafe is finally open.

Alfie's Island is now open

Alfie's Island Cafe is open from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, Tuesday to Friday, though this may change soon. The cafe serves coffee and soft drinks. There's also a tasty treats menu for humans, which includes all-day breakfast, burgers, jacket potatoes, and gourmet hotdogs! Alternatively, visitors are welcome to bring a picnic.

The staff host regular events, including meet and greet play sessions with the furry residents, scenic walks, and dog parties with specially made, canine-friendly cakes.

Some of the friendly faces you'll meet include Maisy the Yorkshire Terrier (she's really into belly rubs) and Scottish Terrier Cosmo (he thinks everyone is his best friend.)

Then there's Sprout, a Pug who is as cute as her name, and, of course, Alfie himself; he's an adorable Golden Retriever.

Ann Johnson visited Alfie's shortly after it opened. Now Ann and her family are Alfie's Island regulars:

"We love Alfie's," posted Ann on Facebook. "We were there today and spent lots of time with Maisy, who is gorgeous. We love going and travel 22 miles each way. We've been five times. We'd be there every day if we lived closer. The staff are brilliant too. It's such a great idea. We love it."

Great food. Great times. Happy dogs. That's what Alfie's Island Cafe is all about.
