Since returning from the groomers, Emma wasn't her usual self. But while her owners looked for reasons for the change, discovering the truth left them stunned.

A woman took to social media to share what happened to her beloved dog Emma, and it's a story stranger than fiction.

What’s wrong with Emma?

Emma is a German Shepherd and Newfoundland cross. Her owners took her to the groomers for a pre-summer trim and then collected her as normal. Or so they thought.

It became very clear to the family that something wasn't right with Emma. She wasn't her usual happy self, and while she'd respond to her name being called, she didn't respond to the hand signals her owners had always used with her.

Her owners initially put it down to the stress of being groomed and then later because Emma's human Dad had gone away to work for 5 months, and she was experiencing separation anxiety.

But it took a chance conversation at the dentist to finally uncover the truth.

Owners left stunned

One of Emma's owners happened to work at the same dentist that the groomer went to, and on a visit, they mentioned to the groomer that Emma had been off since she was groomed.

The next day the family got a call from the groomer. They weren't the only owners to say that their dog hadn't been the same since they came in that day to be groomed. The other dog was an identical twin of Emma called Bear but with a very different temperament.

It transpired that for FOUR months, both families had been caring for a dog that wasn't theirs! The groomer had taken off the dogs' collars to groom them only to put the wrong collars back on.

The dogs have now been reunited with their rightful owner. Meanwhile, the very embarrassed groomer has sent both families gift baskets to apologise for the mix-up.
