A Warsaw-based couple decided to spend their May bank holiday by the sea.
At this time of year, the area around Krynica Morska is still quiet and peaceful, so they were looking forward to relaxing and enjoying long walks with their dog - a lovely rescue named Kandi.
Surprise neighbours
One afternoon, they noticed through their window that a family of wild boars had wandered past the hotel, apparently searching for food. This wasn't unusual - wild boars are being seen more and more on the streets of Krynica Morska and other Polish cities.
They recorded this unusual sight on their phone and forgot about the incident.
The shocking attack
In the evening, Alex went out to walk the dog. He had no idea that this evening stroll would turn into a nightmare.
"Alex went out with Kandi in the evening, and right by the building, a wild boar with its whole family attacked him. Our dog, who we always thought would be the first to run away, stood up to defend him and took the full brunt of the attack", says Ewa. But that wasn't all. Terrified by the boars' attack on the dog, Alex decided to defend Kandi.
"Alex charged at the boar. He freed the dog, but Kandi ran away in panic".
In such unfamiliar surroundings, injured Kandi couldn't find his way back to his owners. "We searched for him by car throughout the entire town, and finally, after an hour, we found him walking in a ditch towards the forest, battered and covered in mud" , says Ewa.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured and Alex and Kandi have made a full recovery. What a heroic pair!
