These construction workers wanted to do a good deed when they found a little puppy stuck in the mud at their construction site. But they soon realised they’d made a big mistake.

Construction sites can be treacherous places for pets and wildlife. Full of holes, sharp objects, and lots of noise, it can be terrifying for animals. So, it’s not unusual for construction workers to find kittens or other small animals hiding on site.

Builders save animal stuck in mud

This group of London builders found a small puppy in a mudhole at their construction site in 2016. The poor animal looked as if it were stuck, and had clearly stopped fighting. He was no longer moving and seemed to be in terrible shape.

The construction workers immediately started trying to free him. As soon as they could grab hold of the pup, they drove him to the nearest animal hospital.

Puppy isn’t a dog at all

And there, they were in for quite a shock. It turns out that the puppy wasn’t a puppy at all, but a baby fox! The poor kit was so covered in mud that it had been unrecognisable.

Thankfully, after a good bath and lots of TLC from the staff at a wildlife rescue, the fox was soon back on his feet. Once he was fully recovered, he was returned to the wild, where he belongs!
