The RSPCA in Swansea had been made aware that someone had sadly died, leaving their black cat with no one to look after them apart from a kind-hearted neighbour who had been putting out food. The RSPCA came to collect the handsome boy and take him to their shelter.
Once the cat arrived at the shelter, the staff checked to see if he was microchipped. This is something they routinely do with all the cats that come into their care.
Surprise discovery
Scanning the cat did reveal that he had a microchip, which perhaps is not surprising as he had been living with his owner for some time. However, the microchip didn’t have that person’s details but a different property where the cat had gone missing from back in 2012!
More than a decade ago, the black cat had been adopted from the RSPCA’s Llys Nini Animal Centre by the Harris family. Izzy Harris was an RSPCA volunteer at the time. But sadly, the cat had disappeared.
Purrfect reunion
When Izzy heard the news that the shelter had her beloved cat named Mo, she was delighted and couldn’t wait to bring him home. She’d always hoped that Mo had been taken in by a nice cat lover who was taking good care of him. However, she was also aware that there was a chance he may have died.
Mo has settled in well to his former home and is slowly being introduced to his new feline siblings, including one cat adopted at the same time as Mo, who is slowly getting used to having her old companion back home.
Mo’s story is a good reminder, Izzy says, of the importance of microchipping your pets as miracles can happen.
